Iskander Moon
Folkpop with classical finesse
Let op: de kaartverkoop van dit evenement start op vrijdag 28 mei om 10.00u.
Iskander Moon is a Belgian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer with a background in classical music. His music is reminiscent of artists like Tom Odell, Jamie Callim, and James Bay, but with Iskander’s own unique twist: as a teenager, he toured Europe with the choral ensemble Collegium Vocale Gent and studied classical piano for six years at MUDA in Ghent. If you listen closely, you’ll hear a musical omnivore who draws inspiration from Paolo Nutini, Sufjan Stevens, and Coldplay just as much as from the works of classical giants like Bach and Debussy.
Driven by a thirst for adventure and a desire to lose himself in a vast, anonymous city, he spent extended periods in places like New York, Berlin, Boston, and Florence. In each of these cities, Iskander immersed himself completely in the local music scene and performed at numerous singer-songwriter cafés, where he impressed audiences with his warm tenor voice. These experiences served as a direct source of inspiration, which Iskander Moon successfully transformed into richly orchestrated alternative pop in which the 25-year-old Iskander shines as a soulful balladeer, drawing on influences from his background as a classical pianist and composer, as well as his experience as a bassist and singer in rock projects.
His debut single, "Saturday Silence," was an instant hit on Belgian radio and racked up hundreds of thousands of streams, laying the groundwork for his EP *Are You Lost Here?*. This EP firmly established him on the music scene, with radio airplay, sold-out shows, and performances both at home and abroad.
His long-awaited debut album, “Salt Moon City,” was released on February 20. It’s a rich and personal debut album that feels like a city full of stories. The record grew out of different places and moments and captures his love for travel, coming home, and starting over. Salt Moon City is warm, cinematic, and timeless: an album that takes you on a journey, lets you get lost, and to which you’ll happily return.
