The Franklin Electric
Montreal-based The Franklin Electric, led by Jon Matte, has grown from a personal project to a well-known name in indie folk with a dedicated international following.
What began as a personal outlet—music as therapy—has evolved into something that deeply resonates with people from all walks of life. Jon's songs about struggle, healing, and connection reach from small venues to large stages. The Franklin Electric shared the stage with artists such as Ben Howard, Half Moon Run, and Amistat, and also played at well-known festivals such as Osheaga (Montréal) and Festival d’été de Québec.
With over 12 million streams for the breakthrough single In Your Heart and 9 million for Answers, The Franklin Electric has built a growing, loyal audience. In 2023, Jon released Oh Brother, one of his most vulnerable chapters. It is a tribute to his late brother and a powerful anthem for mental health awareness. Now, with their latest LP Victory Songs, The Franklin Electric is striking out in a new direction. With songs such as River Run, How You Holding On, and Choices, the album delves deeply into themes of resilience and renewal, striking a chord with indie-folk fans worldwide.
In 2024, the band played 15 sold-out shows in Europe alongside Australian band Salt Tree, followed by a full headlining tour of the UK and EU, and a second extensive series of concerts supporting Amistat. The journey continues in the summer of 2025 with festival appearances and special shows, all leading up to a long-awaited return to their hometown—performances at Montréal's MTelus and Québec City's Impérial Bell—and a 2026 Europe & UK headlining tour. Groningen is also on the itinerary; the band will be performing at Simplon in May!
