With his own blend of folk, indie and pop, Josua creates a sound that can be both intimate and grand. His distinctive voice, with an impressive range of four octaves, gives his songs a unique dynamism, whilst his narrative lyrics start out personal but feel surprisingly universal.
The Dutch-South African singer-songwriter grew up straddling two worlds: the warmth of South African traditions and the down-to-earth nature of North Holland. That search for identity, connection and the question of who you are when all expectations fall away forms the basis of his music. His songs are honest, hopeful and vulnerable, inviting you to pause for a moment in a world that seems to be spinning ever faster.
A new chapter begins this autumn. With ‘Floating’, the first single from his second EP Closer Than You Think, Josua reveals an artist who no longer writes solely from a place of searching, but rather from what he has discovered along the way.
That personal approach did not go unnoticed. His debut single, ‘Bones’, proved to be a striking introduction, earning him a Radio 2 Top Song, a 3FM Megahit and a nomination for 3FM Talent following his performance at Noorderslag. His first EP then took him to festivals such as Paaspop, Concert at SEA and Appelpop, marking the start of a promising career.
