McScallyfest
Minifestival en EP-release vol feestelijke folkpunk
What do you get when you combine McScallywag’s festive folk-punk with their new EP, and invite two bands they’re friends with? That’s right – you get McScallyfest! During this evening, which celebrates both McScallywag’s EP release and St Patrick’s Day, the roof of the Bovenzaal is bound to come off.
McScallywag doesn’t stick to the established boundaries of traditional folk but breaks them down, drawing plenty of inspiration – in their own unique way – from bluegrass, Balkan music, punk rock and, of course, good old drinking songs. Armed with instruments such as the banjo, accordion, wailing guitars and mandolin, they serve up an explosive, cheerful and rousing live set full of sing-alongs, dance tunes and songs that will whisk you away to the highs and lows of their world. This results in the rich flavour of the original McScallywag party-folk-punk blend, distilled and bottled in Groningen.
What happens when you bring together two musicians with a love of folk punk and give them a deadline to put a band together in barely a month? You end up with the best, most reckless, ragtag lot you can imagine! The Burning Pubcrawlers emerged from a chaotic situation and rock like no other. You can expect this six-piece band to set the place alight with their catchy folk punk, inspired by Dropkick Murphy’s, Flogging Molly, The Rumjacks and even the Dutch band BZB. They’ll go so hard that by the end of this party, not a single tile will be left intact – just the scorch marks and empty pints left behind by the already legendary Burning Pubcrawlers.
Behoudenis der Klanken came about organically, without a rigid plan, without an organised project structure and without any ambition to fit into a particular genre or scene. What existed instead was a group of talented and motivated musicians, each bringing their own experiences, influences and perspectives to the table. Within Behoudenis der Klanken, these differences are embraced. They are a source of strength rather than an obstacle.
