Geannuleerd: The Skatalites

The creators of ska, rocksteady and reggae are coming to Simplon! Of course we’re talking about The Skatalites, the legendary Jamaican group who were able to change our world’s music. Without them, ska wouldn’t exist, and without ska no reggae!

The group was founded may 1964 in Kingston, Jamaica. You can hear them on Bob Marley’s earliest recordings and on the albums of Prince Buster. Even back then, The Skatalites already released their own instrumental material. Their version of the theme from the movie ‘Guns of Navarone’ was their first single that reached top charts in the UK. It brought Jamaica’s music to the rest of Europe for the first time.

In 2019, The Skatalites celebrated their 55-year anniversary, but this does not mean it’s the end! In 2020 it’s time again for one of the classic Skatalites-shows; 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, …FREEDOM!!
