Jan Modaal writes punk tearjerkers. Jan Modaal’s music is characterized by Dutch lyrics, humor, and sometimes socially critical punk songs. Short but powerful and sometimes worth a laugh. ‘Jan Modaal’ is a common expression for an average-income worker, a well-known Dutch figure, but this Jan Modaal is an artist from Amsterdam with music as an out-of-control hobby. Jan’s lyrics reflect a deep love for the Dutch language. The songs oscillate between a cheerful protest and a furious declaration of love. ‘Wil je dood ofzo?,’ Jan Modaal’s debut, was released in 2020. In four cutting, tearing pieces, Jan lays out his view of the world. The second EP, ‘Dode Witte Man,’ was released in 2023. It’s hard-hitting, catchy, and straight to the point. Jan Modaal is a man of the people, the sharp voice of a generation.

Where there’s coffee, there’s Familievloei. Familievloei is a collective from the Northeast of our beautiful country. In a humorous way, they try to address social themes. They play the ballad of the squatter, an ode to the crowbar, recycling waste, and even freeparties. They treat the world as a big playground and rub against the boundaries of the established order. Sometimes angry, sometimes sincere, often with an anarchistic aftertaste. Sometimes espresso and sometimes cappuccino, but always connected. Familievloei makes ska, punk, blues, and more, with Dutch lyrics. In June 2023, Familievloei released their debut EP titled “Familievloei,” which includes songs called ‘Afval‘ and ‘Stampen‘. Familievloei has previously performed at places like Kattegat in Zwolle. Now it’s time to take the stage at UP!, provided there’s coffee, of course!
