Bassface returns to Simplon and it proud to present 30 Years of Metalheadz! One of the most iconic labels in drum&bass history is touring through Europe and the UK to celebrate their 30 year journey. Founded in 1994 by the legendary Goldie, Kemistry and Storm. From the first release by Doc Scott,
many now well-known drum&bass acts such as Photek, Dillinja, Adam F, Grooverider, Source Direct, Ed Rush and Optical shaped the label into its now legendary status. Over the years, the labels has developed their original breakbeat and jungle focused sounds into a modern and unique sound, combining oldschool breakbeats with modern production value, crispy basslines and dreamy or aggressive leads.

We’re proud to present a selection of three of the finest artists on the current Metalheadz label for our next Bassface event. The line-up represents a selection of the full label spectrum.

Grey Code has quickly established himself one of drum&bass’ most brightest prospects. Previously mainly focussing on the deeper, darker and more minimal sounds in drum&bass, Grey Code has shaped the modern Metalheadz sound by combining these elements and other digital sounds with classic-Metalheadz breakbeats and dark and heavy basslines. His 2022 debut album on the label shows his true quality and contains one of our favorite tracks from 2022 in ‘Actress’.

We’ve been a fan of Phase and his work for years, so much that we’ve already had Phase over for a Bassface edition in the second room of Simplon back in 2018. The then 22 year old Belgian artist had just signed his first music to Metalheadz and we were all for it! In the years after, multiple amazing EPs and a ridiculous album in the form of ‘Shore to Shore’ followed and Goldie dubbed him ‘the future of Metalheadz’. Looks like the future of the label is very bright! Phase can do it all: from some of the smoothest liquid drum&bass in the history of Metalheadz to face-melting bangers that we’re happy to hear on the Simplon sound system too!

Last but definitely not least: one of our favorite artists and people we’ve ever had the honor of booking, it’s Philth. Philth has released music on most of the iconic drum&bass labels we know, with a large portion of his work focussing on crispy breakbeats, dark atmospheres and deep, crunchy basslines. His multiple EPs and album on amonst others Dispatch Recordings show his production style is very close to the Metalheadz DNA and we were surprised to find out that he only recently released his first ever non-remix track on the Metalheadz label. We think it’s an excellent fit and we’ll take any excuse to be able to bring him back to Simplon! Come check out one of the most technically-gifted DJs we’ve seen play our events, we’re super excited (if you hadn’t noticed yet).

Support comes from Groningen local Red Manta who will bring us his signature liquid drum&bass sounds and he might even combine it with a cheeky little jungle theme! As is tradition, the Bassface Crew comes in for support too.
