The Super Soakers + Statera

The Super Soakers are back! After 6 years of absence, the Nijmegen garage rock band unexpectedly resurrected in early 2022. The band started the new year with their third EP The Shepherd & the Scapegoat. Not as a superficial New Year’s resolution, but more out of bitter necessity. The EP diverts from the straightforward staccato approach that is traditional to The Super Soakers. Melancholia, ballads and gloom are explored while sung together via engaged lyrics about rotting secrets, obvious populist rhetoric and the death of nuance. Where lyrics serve the productive function of sense-making of the absurdity of existence, the live shows break down the seriousness again to celebrate the chaos with the audience This attacking strategy resulted in the production of 3 EPs in their reunion year, with victories at the Valkhof festival. The Super Soakers’ music is out of control and develops like an accident in slow motion: moving and touching. You don’t want to miss this at UP!

Statera Statera is alternative rock with a punk attitude. Singer and guitarist Alexander Banic writes about the agony and pleasure of what everyone faces in life: Existence. The music tells stories of love, pain and uncertainty through a cheerful yet gloomy sound. This is supported by the bass sound and backing vocals of bassist Max van der Kleij. Drummer Gijs van der Stelt completes the gang into one: Statera. Formed at the end of 2022, the band is now ready to bring its ripping sound to the world through its first single ‘Vague’ in 2023.
