whothefislou + Redson + KARA

Fancy some introspection, female empowerment and love mixed with Hip Hop, RnB, House and Neo-soul? Then check out whothefislou. The artist from Cologne has been living in Groningen for several years now and has been working on her passion for music without limiting herself to any particular genre. As long as there is an inspiring sound, her vocals will flow. In November, her EP “Wavelength” was released. The record has a smooth feel and you can hear that she’s inspired by artists like Erykah Badu, Jorja Smith and Lauryn Hill. Not only does whothefislou express herself in a palette of different genres, she also uses different languages: her voice can be heard in English, German and even French. Besides dropping an EP and several tunes (incl. “Souvenirs” with more than 5 million streams on Spotify), whothefislou has already performed regularly with the Groningen Hip Hop crew “Northern Lights” which she is part of. During their appearance at the Amsterdam Dance Event, she once again proved that her voice and vibe also express themselves very well in a live setting, so it was about time for a whothefislou show at UP in her hometown. 

Redson is a 21-year-old rapper from Groningen who has been making strides within the music scene since a young age. He inherited a passion for music from his home; his father has been writing songs in the living room for as long as he can remember, and at the age of thirteen, the young rapper also took up the pen. Redson has developed his style into modern hip-hop, taking the listener on a journey through honest, recognizable emotions. Influenced by artists like Drake and The Weeknd, his productions have an international sound. However, the lyrics are primarily in Dutch, consisting of a broad vocabulary that uses vivid imagery to create a compelling story. This year, Redson performed at Simplon and closed out the summer at Hullabaloo, where he was chosen as the ‘Star of the North’ by the jury. As a result, he is invited to return to the festival next year to uphold that title. Redson’s shows are known for an unprecedented amount of energy; he commands attention from the first minute and gives it his all in return. In the coming year, we can expect many new releases as he builds on the momentum of his latest single ‘Te Ver.’
