Get ready for a night of psychedelic cry pop and garage pop from WATERBOLK and CAW CAW at UP!

WATERBOLK is a ‘psychedelic cry-pop-project’ built around Eva Waterbolk. Eva played solo from 2015 to 2018 and made sad, goosebump-worthy songs with lyrics that stick. In 2018 it was time for something different and she founded the absurdist band De Messen with writer Joost Oomen, among others. Together with (former) band members of Swinder, De Nozems, and Luie Hond, she now combines both worlds with WATERBOLK. WATERBOLK arises from a mix of noise and memory. The Dutch lyrics, and even Groningen lyrics in the song Joapke Jong (Twee), are about the recognizable topics of fear and loss. The edges are sweet, but frayed.

Their first EP ‘WATERBOLK’ was released on February 22, 2020 with an album release show in a sold-out VERA cellar bar, just before the very first corona lockdown. This release show was described by 3voor12 as ‘intimate and as a poetic version of Maaike Ouboter’. WATERBOLK is now working on a second EP and on April 3 the new song ‘Op Een Dak In Barcelona’ was released. Eva previously played at festivals such as Grasnapolsky, Oerol and Noorderzon, and in various pop venues such as EKKO and WORM. Now it’s time to play at UP!

CAW CAW is a new garage-pop trio from Groningen and CAW CAW is in a hurry! CAW CAW consists of Anne Caesar on vocals and guitar, Harmen Ridderbos on bass guitar and Marcel Wolthof on drums. Three names that may sound familiar to you from other bands, such as LPG, Karawane, Town of Saints, Electropoezie and yes, also WATERBOLK. Did-you-know: the musicians of both CAW CAW and WATERBOLK are involved in a new Groningen record label of musicians and artists: Zeevonk Rebels, which believes in the power of the collective. CAW CAW hasn’t released anything yet, but you can bet that these experienced musicians will play a great show at UP.
