The Pharcyde

‘Passin’ Me By’, who doesn’t know the true hip-hop classic? The Pharcyde made an unmistakable impression with this single from the timeless record The Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde. The jazzy production and humor gave the album legendary status. Five years ago, original members Slimkid3 and Fatlip already rocked the main hall of Simplon with an energetic show to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this album. Now they are coming back to Simplon with the third original member Imani this time!

The Pharcyde members started as a dance group in the late 1980s. In 1990 they meet Reggie Andrews, a music teacher, who set them up with the producer J-Swift. Together with J-Swift they started producing demos. This resulted in the debut album The Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde . As early as 1992, they immediately left their mark on the local and wider hip-hop scene with this record. Where at the time hip hop from California was mainly characterized by gangsta rap (such as on Straight Outta Compton and The Chronic), The Pharcyde breathed playfulness and fun. On the colourful, eccentric debut, the members happily frolic around in a cartoonish version of Southern California. Three years later they released their second album Labcabincalifornia,

After the release of the second album, the group splintered. Fatlip and Slimkid3 started their solo careers. Now Fatlip, Slimkid3 and Imani are joining forces again under the original name! During the show they are supported by DJ Abilities, who used to be part of Eyedea & Abilities. He provided El-P’s classic debut album Fantastic Damage with his scratches and also worked with Killer Mike, among others. With that combination, it can only be a festive show, one not to be missed!
