Susurrous + Ralph Louie

Susurrous is the solo project of Lennard Vaarten, an independent singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Tilburg. From his student room he single-handedly records songs in just about every style you could think of. His music mostly fits into the somewhat oxymoronic label of alternative pop, with influences ranging from Beach Boys-esque psychedelia to funky house music à la Daft Punk – and everything in between. In short, Susurrous’ biography on Spotify ends appropriately with ‘I guess you’ll just have to listen’. Susurrous released his fourth album called Avalanche in February 2021, which includes the singles Back to You and Any Time of the Day. With the help of friends Joost van Bergen and Sil van Schijndel, Sussurous will perform his broad repertoire live at UP.

This UP will feel like home for the Groningen based Ralph Louie. His lyrics take a central role in his songwriting, offering a multi-layered view at the human experience with strong and memorable melodies. With folk (rock) as his musical  and inspiration for lyrics and musical structure from a wide selection of genres, Ralph Louie will present a fresh interpretation of the traditional folk sound. While the listener is first attracted by the compelling rhythmic guitar and clear vocals, the poetic lyrics then completely drag the listener into Ralph Louie’s imaginative world!
