Flor Concreta + dort.

One of the acts for this evening is Flor Concreta. Over three years ago, 2^nd of May 2019, The Pool of Tears performed at UP. What many people may have missed that night is that Gene Teysse, the man who hides behind alteregos like The Pool of Tears and DJ, is also the curator of post-punk blog In Depth Music, the best place to discover obscure new wave bands en finally give them the appreciation they deserve. One of the acts you encounter there is Flor Concreta, the gothic new wave project of Vini Ferreira (which is an excellent stage name in itself!). Ferreira spent much of his life on planes between São Paolo and Amsterdam, but when he’s not flying, he’s making music. Clearly influenced by Bauhaus, Clan of Xymox and Sad Lovers & Giants, the songs build up from drum computer and bass guitar and are layered with waves of synths and guitar that The Cure could only dream of during their Faith– and Pornography-eras. The vocals, which are often in Portuguese, make it all the more atmospheric.

Speaking of atmosphere, we’re in for a treat with Shy Guys, who are the first on our stage tonight. They themselves call their music emo ambient, although I would rather call it muscular ambient. A trio of ex-Deutsche Mark members, with a lot of synths and a heart for drone. Be on time!

DJ of the evening is Relate Radio star Lorakel, who carries a fresh load of danceable records upstairs (or maybe just a convenient USB-stick full of bangers) to musically glue the evening together!
