BLK JKS

After the worldwide success of their album ‘After Robots’ in 2009 and then a decade of silence, they are back. The rock’n’roll legends of BLK JKS are finally back and coming to Simplon on June 15!

Around the end of the ’00s, this South African rock quartet was a darling in the underground scene. They were discovered by Diplo in South Africa and not only did they meet everyone from The Mars Volta to TV On The Radio, but they were also compared to them. In 2010, they performed with Alicia Keys, jammed with The Roots, got photographed with Pharrell Williams and hung out with Lou Reed at the SXSW festival in Texas.

With their first album a mix of African funk rock, jazz, folk, soul and everything in between, their new album ‘Abantu / Before Humans’ (2021) focuses on fierce retro-futuristic afropunk. With this sound, they were consequently voted one of the 50 most important rock bands in the world at the moment in the same year. A must-see in our upper room!
